So tonight I was in my garage and holy smoke, there was a bat flying around in my garage.. Pretty cool cause bats eat tons of insects.. Last summer I got to see the worlds largest urban bat colony.
One of the most amazing sights in Austin takes place every evening from March to early November, when 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats emerge from their roosts under the Congress Avenue Bridge.
It is very cool… anyway, so I went to get my camera to take a picture of the bat in my garage… not sure why, it was just a bat, but anyways by the time I got back it had flown out of my garage…. or so I thought…
Later on that night about 11ish I was watching some Stargate SG-1’s that I had DVR’d and all of a sudden I notice something is flying around in the living room… It’s that damn BAT!!!
Well, I run down the hallway and shut my daughter’s door tight.. She’s not quite two yet and get me wrong, she would probably think a bat flying around is pretty cool.. but I did not want to have to deal with waking her up if it flew in her room.. I also woke up my wife and told her, just because I knew she would kinda freak.. she took it pretty good, much to my disappointment. ![]()
Here is one of the pictures of it.. After I turned on all the lights it was not too happy and landed on the wall. Freaky.. sorta..
Now, I could have killed the thing, but in a lot of states it is not legeal to do so.. In Iowa bats are protected by law.. i think.. anyway, bats eat bugs bugs bugs… which I hate, so that’s good… So I captured the thing against the wall with a trash can, but the first time it got away.. the second time I got it and made Tracey get me a piece of cardboard to use a lid and i let the little dude go outside.
Here is me with the bat in the trash!!! Victory is mine!!
So now my house is bat free!! I’m not sure how the little bugger got in.. but now he is gone.. It’s weird because over the last week, two coworkers have told me how they have just had bats in their houses..
Later

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackYeah.. about a week ago my little cat (Kinnick) was out on the front porch mowing a bat! I fucking HATE BATS! I got a broom and shoved that thing outside!
Oh.. and my other 7 yr old cat (Hawkeye) was just sitting there watching little Kinnick mow the bat. Kinda funny.
A Bat got in our house one night….we left. I hate bats too. Anyway came back the next day….it was hanging on the ceiling from the basement. Shot it from long range with a BB gun (took me a few shots to hit it, but it didn’t fly off while I was missing….bad mistake).
That’s premeditated baticide..
Chris, that’s crazy! What I find most intersting is that you are far more afraid of bugs than bats.
dude, i have a blog now…how the heck do i add you and andrew to it? i’m so confused…

Emily, you should set up your profile so when you leave comments nosy people (like me!) can take a look.
Chris-Stargate SG1 fans unite! I wish I had DVR. I’ve missed the last 3 weeks of it.
Em is a blog rookie, she don’t know how to log in.
Yo yo yo! I’m logged in! Not much of a profile to check out yet, though - I’m way too green to the world of blog.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CHRIS!!!!!!
