From the Borger News-Herald (Texas)

A new study was released Tuesday in which a panel of scientists said SpongeBob SquarePants and characters like him should promote only healthy food for kids and not sweets.

Senator Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, who requested this report was even reported as saying, “These likable, kid friendly characters are being used to manipulate vulnerable children to make unhealthy choices.”

Well, my question is, since when do children buy the groceries? When do they make the choice as to what they will eat?

The people responsible for obesity in children are not the evil marketers, but the parents.

Think back to 20 years ago when we were children. Were the cartoons and advertising that much different than they are today?

Seriously.. when my 2 year old daughter goes to McDonalds for fries and McNuggets it ain’t because she snuck out of the house and did it behind my back… It was ME… I took her there. If she porks out before she’s 10 it ain’t flippin’ Spongebob’s fault.. It’s mine!
