OAKLAND, Iowa (AP) - Three workers fell 1,100 feet Wednesday from an Iowa Public Television tower and died, officials said.
Bill Hayes, director for engineering at IPTV, said the crew was replacing strobe lights when the accident happened.
“They were up fairly high when something went wrong and all three members of the crew fell,” Hayes said. “We don’t know what the actual cause was.”
So far they are saying failed safety equipment, but they are not sure. I know when I worked for an electrical contractor and was climbing around some I-Beams 30 or 40 foot above ground in a plant that I would not always take the time to hook my saftey harness up becaue it would be too time consuming, knowing that if I fell 40 feet to the hard cement it would be very bad… Hopefully this wasn’t the case.

I know Bill Hayes. When I saw this it scared me because I was afraid it was going to say he was one of the people killed. Then I remembered that he is like the head engineer for all this stuff so probably he doesn’t climb towers…
I know one of the guys that fell i don’t know for sure what happened but they say the harness didn’t work either on them so yeah it is a sad day for their familes
