A Waverly city councilman has been put in jail charged with theft.
Duane Liddle was arrested Friday by Waverly police. He faces second degree theft charges after police in New Hampton say he knowingly wrote an insufficient check there. The check was for an amount over a thousand dollars, which is a class D felony.

Liddle won a runoff last fall to be a councilman at-large in Waverly.
If convicted he could face up to 5 years in prison.
