Town Blocks Comcast On-Demand

A small Illinois town has blocked Comcast’s On-Demand service over concerns that town citizens will use the service to watch adult content. When one local approached town leaders and suggested the move was censorship, she was told “You can’t watch porn in South Holland.” “In keeping with the prevailing community standards and the long established values associated with our motto of faith, family and future, the village has franchise agreements that protect these standards and values,” a town official said in a statement.

Comcast, who acquired the network from AT&T broadband four years ago, says they’ll comply with the request. They’d added, however, that they’d prefer letting customers use the provided parental filters if they’re worried about lewd content….

Man that is dumb. Does the town have no idea that folks will just dump their cable and put DirectTV or DishNetwork on their houses? And good luck trying to ban satelite dishes. The Federal Communications Act of 1996 says no law/rule can prevent you from putting a small dish, or antenna on your house.. So suck it, South Holland.
