My brother Andrew, wife Melissa, and baby Claire moved back from Austin, Texas to Des Moines this month. Andrew can’t seem to get away from I-35.
I can’t seem to escape Interstate 35.
Seven years ago when we first moved to the Des Moines Area, I took I-35/I-80 every day to work at Grand View College.
We drove 1000 miles down I-35 to move to Austin, Texas. Once there, I began commuting down I-35 to attend graduate school and teach at Texas State University.
After graduating, I worked at a community college in San Antonio, which is down the road on—you guessed it—Interstate 35.
And now that we’re back in Des Moines, I’ve been taking I-35/80 to get to Des Moines Area Community College.
What’s next? Maybe we’ll move to Minneapolis or Kansas City. I guess Ames, Iowa, home of Iowa State University, is up the road on I-35.
I’ve come this far, I might as well work my entire career on the Asphalt Mississippi.
