Call me big daddy when you back that data up!

Back your data up people! This is something I was never really good at myself. I think I have taken like 4000 to 5000 pictures since the first kid was born 5 years ago. (That was when I got my digital camera) A few times I backed them up to DVD but it was a pain as it took more then one and then you have to store them somewhere… Doesn’t help to keep them in your house if your house burns down, does it?

No, you’re not going to hear a horror story of me losing all of those pictures. Hell, it could have happened, but it did not. No, I finally did something about it, and if you are in the same situation, you should look into it as well.

I went with an online backup service. There are a bunch out there but the one I finally settled on was Carbonite.com. It has been reviewed fairly well. It’s cheap, like $50 a year for unlimited space. It is pretty easy to setup, but you can also customize it pretty well too. I have a specific directory where all my pictures are. I just told Carbonite to back up that directory. As I move pictures from my camera into that directory, the Carbonite client you install on your machine detects that and will begin to upload it. (You can have it do it instantly or on a daily schedule.)

Great peace of mind for $50.

RSS is not my friend!!

Filed under: Computers — Chris Neuendorf @ 3:27 pm

Ok, so I will admit I know little about RSS feeds…  From what I know they are a way for people to read your entries without visiting your site.  So they use a “blog reader” and can subscribe to blogs and they use that reader and it tells them when there are updates to the blogs they read.

So when I was on Blogger my RSS feed i guess was using ATOM and now that I switched it is using a different feed, the problem is that some sites thing my feed is still using ATOM and I have no clue how to get them to change…  Bastards!!!

So I did the iPod thing…

Filed under: Computers, Music — Chris Neuendorf @ 12:15 am

I broke down and got one.. I have been looking at MP3 players for a while and I had never considered an iPod.. One reason is I am just not a big Apple fan. Their crap is overpriced for what it is. The other reason is I hate having to be forced into using a program (iTunes) to get music onto a device. I want a device that I can plug into any computer and be able to move music onto it…

BAM! I found my solution. I got a iPod Nano and using this website that I found: Hack Attack: The self-sustaining iPod. I can install a few tiny apps onto the iPod and
BAM I can plug my new Nano into any windows machine and sync music. No stinkin’ memory hog iTunes!!!!
